The idea of inaugurating a Jamaican Film Academy was born with the concept for a Reggae Film Festival. Co-creators Peter Gittins of Reggae Films UK and JaMediaPro director Barbara Blake Hannah felt that the clear evidence of a new genre of films inspired by Jamaica's reggae music, indicated the need for establishment of an umbrella organisation to be 'godmother' to the tender emerging shoots of a flourishing Jamaican film industry.

The idea was endorsed by Minister of Culture Olivia Grange, who officially inducted six Film Pioneers at the first Reggae Film Festival in Febuary, 2008. www.jamaicafilmacademy.org

The internets first website devoted specifically to archiving Reggae video clips online. The website allows users to submit their own favourite video URL's from the net and add the videos to the archive, or you can upload your own content. While youtube has lots of videos about reggae it can be very difficult to see a list of them all as searching for the term 'reggae' only brings up a small number of them, so the reggae film archives includes only reggae themed videos making it much easier to find what you are looking for.
Unfortunatley the site creators do not have enough funding to keep the site running and currently have a limit to how many videos can be online at anyone time so for now you can view a limited selection of the videos available. Take a look www.reggaefilmarchives.co.tv
